Canada lose 2nd tour match (Cricket Canada)

Canada has lost its second match of the 2010 Tour of India after a hard fought match against Chhattisgargh. The match was the first ever international at the Raipur International Stadium. Winning the toss and batting first, skipper Zubin Surkari (filling in for the rested Ashish Bagai), backed his side to put up a good score on what looked to be a great batting track. A crowd in the thousands came to see the Canadians bat and was not disappointed. After a quick wicket by the hosts, Ruvindu Gunasekera came to the crease looking to find some of his form from the fall and did not disappoint. Finding all parts of the ground Gunasekera found the boundary 10 times (9 4s, 1 6) en route to an unbeaten 112 from 125 balls. The innings, built largely around partnerships with Nitish Kumar (86 runs) and Surkari (103 runs) pushed Canada to a fighting total of 279 – 5 from 50 overs. In reply, Canada struggled to get an early break though and though the spinners bowled well through the middle (Akshay Bagai 3-61), it was not enough to restrict the hosts who got home
in 47 overs.
