{"id":12755,"date":"2019-06-20T07:48:39","date_gmt":"2019-06-20T11:18:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.canadacricket.com\/?p=12755"},"modified":"2019-06-20T14:41:48","modified_gmt":"2019-06-20T18:11:48","slug":"global-t20-draft-streamed-live","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadacricket.com\/?p=12755","title":{"rendered":"Global T20 draft streamed live"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The twice postponed Global T20 draft took today, and was <a href=\"https:\/\/gt20.ca\/gt20-player-draft-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">live streamed on the organization web site.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The big news is the appearance of Yurav Singh, with Kane Williamson being the other big name in the marquee players<\/p>\n<p><strong>Live report<\/strong><br \/>\nThe draft started with a long sales pitch for a fan engagement app that really seemed to be peripheral to the competition itself, presumably a business relationship established by the owners.<\/p>\n<p>The new team was announced as the Brampton Wolves owned by the League, setting up the possibility of exciting local derbies with the Toronto team&#8230; This gives six teams- Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks, Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals &#8211; all teams had owners announced, all apparently Indian based, apart from the new team.<\/p>\n<p>The owners were on stage, and presented with team jerseys- apparently with new designs, although to be honest, this writer can&#8217;t actually recall what last year&#8217;s versions were.<\/p>\n<p>Then finally, on to the draft&#8230; Seventeen players, seven from full member nationals including three marquee players, five Canadian national players (three players from Canada A, 2 players from Canada B), and five from the other associates, including one from the ICC Americas. Playing squads must have five full member players, two Canadians, and the rest from Canada\/ Associates. Salary cap announced as &#8220;6.5 lakh $US&#8221; (which provoked the tweet from Jon Shechet &#8220;They&#8217;re using Indian math + American Currency for a Canadian competition&#8230; Wow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It was suggested that the following Associates player numbers are in the draft:-<br \/>\nCanada: 142 USA: 39 UAE: 28 Nepal: 12 HK, Oman: 6 Russia, Malaysia: 4 Spain, Scotland: 3 Germany, Netherlands, Kenya: 2 Cyprus, Belize, Qatar: 1<\/p>\n<p>Then the draft- big names- Yurav Singh, Brendon Macullum, Kane Williamson; first associate player picked- Sandeep Lamichhane  of Nepal<\/p>\n<p>Complete Draft:<br \/>\n1st three names are in marquee category, first seven in full member category.<br \/>\nNext three names are from ICC Associates; player 12 is from ICC Americas, and the rest Canadian, first three in the A category, last two in the B category . <\/p>\n<p><b>Toronto Nationals<\/b> &#8211; coach Geoff Lawson<br \/>\n1.
