John Davison will lead Canada into its 2011 cricket World Cup opener against co-host Sri Lanka at Hambantota. Only the soccer World Cup has more followers than cricket&#8217;s World Cup. Davison was born in Campbell River in 1970 when his Aussie parents were on a one-year teaching exchange. That&#8217;s his one tenuous link to Canada, but Davison has made the most of it as a dual citizen raised in Victoria -the other Victoria in Australia.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nDavison made a recordshattering impact for Team Canada at the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, leading this second-tier cricket nation with a stunning debut of 111 runs against the West Indies at Pretoria on just 67 balls to set the record at the time for the fastest century in World Cup history. Later in the 2003 World Cup against New Zealand, Davison recorded the third all-time fastest 50 runs in a Cup game.<\/p>\n<p>The Island native went on to captain Canada at the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies.
