Their reply was hampered by some suicidal running with three of the first four wickets falling to run-outs and they never recovered. Ireland completed a third one sided win, this time by 56 runs.

Canada surprisingly fielded an unchanged side following a one-sided loss the day before. Ireland won the toss and batted. An excellent catch by Cheema saw yesterday’s top scorer Ed Joyce back in the pavilion in the 6th over but the fifty came up in good time in the elenth over with no further loss. Cusack was looking dangerous but was bowled by Junaid Siddiqui for 21 after he and Porterfield had put on 59. Porterfield reached his fifty and the hundred came up in the 22nd over but Zahid Hussain had him caught at mid-wicket in the next over. Niall O’Brien hit Siddiqui for a big six over long-on, but then was run out thanks to some sharp fielding from Limbada- part of a much improved effort in the field from Canada. Ireland were 188/4 at that point but with the dangerous pairing of Gary Wilson and Kevin O’Brien at the wicket. They batted carefully initially but with 34 overs gone O’Brien started to open up, hitting Hussain for six over mid-wicket, then striking Patel for three fours in an over. The 50 partnership came up with another boundary and with 13 overs left Ireland were 172/4. O’Brien made 43 in 36 balls before holing out to long-on off Baidwan’s bowling; he and Wilson put on 63. Chohan had Mooney leg-before and could well have had Johnston in similar fashion next ball. Canada bowled well to restrict Ireland’s acceleration in the final overs and they finished on 249/7. Canada however will have to bat considerably better than yesterday’s effort to challenge this target.

Canada showed their intent clearly as Patel hit the first ball of the innings for four. He hit three more boundaries before being caught off a top-edged hook for 20. Kumar and Gunasekera took the total past fifty but then Gunasekera showed poor judgement in calling for a run when he hit the ball straight to mid-on, who ran him out with a direct hit. Canada were making good progress at 82/2 when another run-out set them back, when some fine fielding from Porterfield sent Kumar (30) back. Hansra opened his account with a six over extra cover, but then a mix-up resulted in a third run-out, with Limbada (24) the victim this time. Cheema defended for six balls, then went for the big hit only to give mid-on an easy catch and Canada were 105/5 at the half-way mark. Hamza Tariq and Hansra put on 46, but with the run rate required rising past 8 an over both departed attempting big hits. Dockerell bowled his 10 overs for 27 runs and two wickets. The tail-enders did their best but Canada again failed to challenge the Irish total, losing by 56 runs.
Cricket Europe coverage – CricInfo coverage
There’s live streaming at Irish cricket or via Cricket Canada

In the second one-day international of the tour of Ireland, Canada produced a much improved performance in the field to restrict Ireland to 249/7.
