A good Dutch team fielded Swart, van der Gugte and Cooper have played first class-cricket in Australia; and Myburgh and Baresi in South Africa. Canada had a real chance of starting the tournament with a win after dismissing Netherlands for 135, but never got going with the bat, all out for 93 with over 3 overs remaining.
The Netherlands batted after winning the toss. Canada got off to an excellent start; after Osinde had bowled a tidy first over, Junaid Siddiqui bowled Swart with his 6th delivery and Netherlands were 7/1. Myburgh struck three boundaries, and Hansra’s first over cost 11 runs as Cooper hit two more, but then Cheema’s first ball had Myburgh caught by Baidwan – 37/2 after 6 overs. Cooper made 29 from 25 balls before he was bowled by Baidwan, 66/3 after 11 overs. Baidwan took his second wicket when Baresi was caught by Hussain, and then Borren was run out – 98/5 with four overs remaining. Kervezee made 29 before Baidwan bowled him just after the hundred went up. Baidwan took 3/33 from his four overs. Mudassar Bukhari hit hard, striking the only six of the innings in the final over, and Netherlands finished on 135/6.

Canada made to 18 before losing their first wicket but then slumped to 26/5 as the always fragile Canadian middle order failed miserably. Hansra (30) and Baidwan (21) took the score to 74 with 7 overs to go, but then a second collapse saw Canada all out for 93.

CricInfo scorecard

Canada lost to the Netherlands in their first match of the World T20 qualifier in Dubai today.
