The University of Toronto St George\u2019s campus has two programs of intra-mural indoor cricket this winter. One division involves games are played between colleges or academic \/departments and a second involves groups of friends. Indeed, Woodsworth College (57) beat Trinity College (30) in the Division 1 Winter 2012 championship last Thursday (March 15) . Trinity (49) had a comfortable sem-final win against St Michael\u2019s College (17). Eight teams were due to take part, but one was struck out on the stony ground after defaulting three games.

\nThe Cornered Tigers rose from fourth place in the Division 2 standings to win the Divisional Championship. Skule Cricket Club had beaten Cornered Tigers twice in the qualifying schedule but lost by 10 runs in the semi-final. Second placed Titans beat the Rotman B team in the other semi-final but then lost 47-45 to the Cornered Tigers in the Championship Final on Monday night (March 19). . <\/p>\n
So the ship of indoor college and university cricket sails on. The score from the Monday night final made it to the public internet. The scores might be a bit spartan, but there is something that can be used. Now someone, or someones (to show a modern flair for English) might try to do some educating on the nature of cricket scores. But is might be an issue that the underlying scoring systems tend not to allow easy input of wickets and overs. Having wins by \u201cruns\u201d or \u201cwickets\u201d is a twist that soccer, (ice) hockey, hockey do not have. <\/p>\n
I suspect, there is bound to be more cricketing action going on in the schools, colleges and universities scene during the winter and spring somewhere in Canada. After all, there are records of Upper Canada College playing outdoor cricket from at least 1836, with first mention of a game against Toronto University in 1843. Trinity College may have lost the indoor final game this March, but as the University of Trinity was playing outdoor cricket from at least 1855. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
