This time, the Universities team boasted a combination of York, University of Toronto and McMaster.
Emery winning the toss, chose to field. They were strengthened by the availability of all rounder Karan Bhatti and batsman Japjit Singh. Karan bowled without much help from the Astroturf wicket, but still managed some turn and bounce, bowling a respectable 4 overs, 2 wickets and garnering only 15 runs. The combined Universities batting managed to reach 72 runs with Mohit Punjabi top scoring with 14 runs followed by Sahil Kesar who contributed 11 runs. Overall, Emery bowling seemed to be on target with only 13 extras. Chasing 73 runs for victory, Emery set about their task in high spirits. Japjit Singh made 16 runs followed by Karan Bhatti’s 11. Some creative batting by Riday ‘Bangla Babu’ Sarkar who stayed in the wicket with Hummad Khan. Hummad decisively struck a well placed boundary that raced past the long off fieldsman to secure the win. This time around, with some good field placing and kept the extras down forced a well deserved 3 wicket victory.
Full marks go to both teams for playing in the spirit of the game and a positive attitude. A special mention goes to McMaster’s Amit Bhandari, with only one arm fielded better than most people with 2 who and kept his team’s morale high. Photos and tournament summary will follow.
The final match is slated for Tuesday 1st May 2012.
