So the Victoria and District Cricket League on Vancouver Island in British Columbia does not have a monopoly on six-a-side cricket this Sunday.
Millwoods CC’s event ends with a barbeque, and I’m sure the organizers would appreciate spectators and families, including those with no previous cricketing background, taking an interest in the sport of cricket. More information about the Millwoods event can be found via the Edmonton and District Cricket League website (www.cricketedmonton.ca). The Victoria and District Cricket Association website has more information on the VISAS international six-a-side tournament, which continues next week until August 11th (see www.vdca.ca)

Meanwhile, some spectators might be finding their way to the Maple Leaf Cricket Ground in King City, Ontario, on Sunday (August 5th) for the final of the Cricket Canada National Cricket League’s 50-over tournament. A game which sees Friday’s winners in action with a scheduled start time of 11 am, as well as a consolation playoff between Friday’s losing teams.

Western Stallions bring an Alberta touch to Sunday’s NCL Final as a result of a 76 run win against Central Shield on Friday. Western Stallions 173 for seven wickets in 50 overs proved to be a highly defendable total against Central Shield’s 97 all out in 35.2 overs. The Western Stallions, lead by Khurram Chohan so far in the tournament, will face the Pacific Edge, captained by Jimmy Hansra, in Sunday’s final. Hansra’s Pacific Edge team scored 203 for seven wickets in 50 overs against the Prairie Fire, who replied with a battling 176 all out in 42.2 overs.

The Prairie Fire and Central Shield will therefore meet in a game to decide third place in the 50-over championship, also at Maple Leaf Cricket Ground on Sunday. The resurfacing work along 15th Sideroad, a feature during the recent MCC v Ontario game and for the start of the Cricket Canada National Cricket League has reached a stage where the road looks in good shape, at the moment.

A whole range of cricket league matches will doubtless be taking place across Canada, subject to the odd rain break or whatever. Perhaps Sunday’s NCL 50-over final will attract a record crowd for this competition. And don’t forget that the T20 version of the National Cricket League is due to begin on Tuesday, with the final set for Saturday, August 11th, 2012.

Millwoods Cricket Club, members of the Edmonton and District Cricket League, host a six-a-side cricket tournament this Sunday, August 5th, at the Millwoods Cricket ground.
