It takes second spot to the West Indies test, ODI and T20 series wins against New Zealand, but the 76 run win by the Western Stallions against Pacific Edge brings a spot for the NCL. <\/p>\n<p>Damodar Daesrath\u2019s 109 not out for Brampton Masters against Vikings in the Toronto and District Elite Division brought feature coverage for the former Guyana skipper in \u201cThe Caribbean Times International\u201d (week ending August 9th).  His first appearance for Canada in the recent soggy trip to Scotland is also covered.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nSunil Gavaskar\u2019s visit to Markham last wekend as a MoneyGram ambassador for the ICC World Cup T20 gains a place in Can-India News (August 10th).  The Brampton Palace banquet hall was apparently overflowing for the \u201cLittle Master\u2019s\u201d appearance.  Gavaskar move on for further promotional activities in New York, New Jersey and Dallas.  <\/p>\n<p>Gavaskar\u2019s promotional activities also gained a place in the current issue of \u201cThe Weekly Times of India\u201d (August 10th).  The Jhanvi XI\u2019s win in the third IIBS KST T20 Cup final against the Mississauga Tigers is reported in this week\u2019s \u201cSouth Asian Focus\u201d.  This news also featured in a some community newspapers last week.  <\/p>\n<p>But with many pages assigned to the Olympic Games, Full Member test and ODI cricket, and other sports as well as special interest events such as the Caribbean Carnival in full swing and independence celebrations also in focus for India and Pakistan, the Canadian cricket scene cricket gained limited overall coverage in a spot review of English language ethnic media for the current week.  There is competition for space in these newspapers, so Canadian cricket needs to plug away if it is to secure broader ongoing coverage.  <\/p>\n<p>There did not seem to be any Canadian cricket content in the current issues of : The Contact (August 7th), The South Asian Voice (August 8th, an insert in Pakeeza), South Asian Generation Next (August 9th), Share (August 9th), India Journal (August 10th) South Asian Weekender (August 10th), and The Weekly Voice (August 11th issue).  It may be the case that The Weekly Voice published a little earlier this week to celebrate \u201cHappy 66th Independence Day India and Pakistan\u201d, as this review was based on newspapers available on August 10th.  <\/p>\n<p>Copies of the Caribbean Weekly (July 26th edition) surfaced but the Caribbean Carnival and the music and night club scene dominated news, features and advertising space. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Fire keeps Burning, news of the Prairie Fire\u2019s third win in three games in the National Cricket League (August 9th) is now up to 2 tweets, but news that the \u201cNCL kicks off with a bang\u201d (August 8th) has yet to get off the tweets mark on \u201cGo Cricket Go Canada\u201d.  There certainly has been a bit too much rain in the last couple of days in the Greater Toronto Area.  Let\u2019s hope for a better day on Saturday when Cricket Canada\u2019s National Cricket League T20 is due to conclude at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, King City, Ontario.  The Championship game scheduled for an 11 am start, as is the playoff for third place.
