Chestnut won all six round-robin games, then beat Woodsworth College in the semi-finals to reach the Final. Skule B edged out LPC in the Division 2 Final.

Eight teams were registered in Division 1 and six in Division 2. A team that defaults twice is ruled out of the league, so Skule C’s 3 wins was more than the fourth placed team in Division 2 (Mechanical Bulls) could manage, but two defaults put Skule C out of league contention.
Matches are played as 9 overs per side with two bowlers being allowed to bowl three overs each. Nine players, from a roster of twelve, can be dressed for a match with seven allowed in the field at any one time. Although the U of T indoor murals are listed as a men’s sport, the playing rules allow for both male and female players.

Division 1 Summary

As previously mentioned, Chestnut won all six of their round robin matches in Division 1, beginning with a win against Victoria College (55-24). Wins followed against Woodsworth (51-37), SGS (33-32), Skule A (10-0 default), Trinity (56-47) and, presumably, New College. SMC’s two defaults would seem to have taken place before any possible meeting with Chestnut.
Trinity College (4 wins, 1 loss) took second place in the round robin stage due to a better net run rate than SGS (4 wins, 2 losses). Woodsworth College (3 wins, 2 losses) placed fourth ahead of New College (2 wins, 3 losses) and Victoria College (1 win, 4 losses).
Victoria was on the losing end of the two highest totals in this league phases, losing 79-29 against Trinity and 70-23 against Woodsworth. SGS and Woodsworth were involved in a game that ended 64-62 on opening day.
Chestnut beat Woodsworth 45-14 in one semi-final while SGS beat Trinity by 18 runs (53-35). Chestnut scored 62 in the Final to beat SGS (42) by 20 runs.
Division 2 Summary

In the Division 2 Playoff semi-finals Skule B (5 wins, 1 loss) beat Mechanical Bulls (1 win, 4 losses) by 30 runs (58-28). LPC won by 31 runs a semi-final against ISS Blues (76-45). LPC’s total of 76 was the highest Division 2 total in 2013, edging out the 71 LPC had notched against Mechanical Bulls in a 28-run round-robin victory.
All Starz placed fifth in Division 2 with 1 win, 2 losses and 1 game lost on a default. Skule C tallied 3 wins, but two defaults ruled them out of the league. UC defaulted on opening day against ISS Blues and disappeared from the competion. The ghost of 2013 UC rests with 1 defaulted loss in the Division 2 standings.

The Division 2 Final may, or may not, have been a nail-biter, but that is hard to say with just the total runs being known: LPC 50, Skule B 51.

E Norfolk

Chestnut beat SGS by 20 runs to win the 2013 Division 1 Final of the University of Toronto’s indoor intra-mural cricket championship.
