The top two teams from the round-robin phase were due to meet in the 2013 Northern Ontario Cricket Tournament Final at 3.30pm. The cricketing part of the Summer In the Park Festival was due to conclude with a closing ceremony, including presentation of awards, from 6pm.
Some might find news in the 600 CKAT Saturday Sports Wrap about the Laurentian Ski Hill Snowboarding Club has received a $17,000 grant to support the Hill’s 2013-2014 “Introduction and Improvement Program” from the Ontario Sport and Recreation Communities Fund to be interesting. It might indicate the Snowboarding Club prepared a solid presentation and plan in order to obtain a grant. Perhaps the cricketers in Northern Ontario might see if they could obtain some funding to help promote and develop cricket in North Bay, Sault Ste Marie, Thunder Bay and, presumably, in Sudbury, Ontario, where the Sudbury Cricket Club and Northern Ontario Cricket Council had planted some cricketing seeds in recent years.
Perhaps there is scope for a CIMA Northern Ontario Mayors’ Cricket Championship? The one response to the recent article in “The Nugget” about this past weekend’s Northern Ontario Cricket Championship asked if there was room for women cricketers. Hopefully someone will attempt to open the door for women and girls cricket in the northern towns in Ontario, and hopefully results from the 2013 North Bay tournament will soon be appearing to complete another step in cricket’s progress around the top of the Great Lakes.
E Norfolk

In the lead up to the 2013 Northern Ontario Cricket Tournament at Amelia Park, North Bay, the North Bay Multicultural Cricket Club registered wins against Sudbury, Timmins and Markham, according to the July 20th Saturday Sports Wrap on 600CKAT.
