The 2013-2014 academic year\u2019s York Region Athletic Association\u2019s (YRAA) Boys Varsity outdoor cricket playoffs are due to begin this week. Two semi-finals are scheduled on Tuesday (October 8), 20, with the Final scheduled for Thursday, October 17.
\nThe regular season round-robin in the YRAA Varsity Boys Tier 1 outdoor cricket championships took place during the last two weeks at Markham\u2019s Fairtree Community Park. Eight teams, divided into two zones of four teams per zone, participated. The zonal standings were headed by Bill Crothers Secondary School (Zone A) and Pierre Elliott Trudeau Secondary School (Zone B) who each won three out of three zonal matches.
\nSecond place in Zone B went to Richmond Hill High School who beat Middlefield by six runs in the last game of the round-robin last Thursday (October 3rd). Richmond Hill won two of three round-robin games, leaving Middlefield (won 1, lost 2) and Milliken Mills (lost 3) to participate in the consolation playoff matches that begin on October 9.
\nThe matches to decide fifth through eight places are scheduled to follow on Wednesday, October 16.
\nThree teams ended with records of one win and two losses in Zone A: Bur Oak, Jean Vanier and Stephen Lewis, one of whom aill officially be placed second in Zone A and play in a semi-final game on Tuesday.
\nPlayoff matches are scheduled at 9.30 am and 12.30 am at the Fairtree Community Park in Markham, Ontario. However, there has been a certain amount of rain on Sunday and it is currently raining steadily early on Monday morning in the Toronto area, which might produce some weather-related changes in schedule if things do not brighten up.
