Irfan Ahmed lead with 90 and Mark Chapman clipped 64 from 50 balls. Hong Kong’s net run rate improved to +0.568 which was better than the Scots, something that added a touch of pressure in the closing overs but the late Scottish batting pulled off the necessary win. Geraint Jones hit 82 for PNG.

The prospect of Namibia overhauling the UAE’s 263 all out effectively ended when Gerrie Snyman was caught for 48 with 2.4 overs remaining. Snyman and Gerhard Erasmus had added 46 for the seventh wicket in 6.2 overs but faced a tough challenge of 47 from the last three overs. Erasmus, who ended on 28 not out, scored a single then Snyman’s innings ended. Namibia closed on 227 for eight leaving UAE with a 36 run victory. Three of UAE’s top four batsmen reached the forties: Khurram Khan made 49, Shaiman Anwar 47 and Amjad Ali 46. The UAE ended with a net run rate of +0.737.

So on Friday, between afternoon and early evening depending on where one lives in Canada, the UAE and Scotland will contest the Final of this 2014 ICC Cricket World Cup Qualifier at the Bert Sutcliffe Oval, Lincoln in New Zealand.
