Canada again performed well with the bat but fell short, bowled out for 226 in the final over. Nikhil Dutta was top scorer with 62*. Canadas finishes the round robin at 0 and 3 but the batsmen in particular showed they were competitive with opposition from Test-playing countries.

West Indies Under-19’s won the toss and elected to bat in Abu Dhabi. Canada made two changes from the previous game, bringing in left-arm pace bowler Stephan Rajasingham and 17-year old Aniket Joshi for batsman Stephan Joseph and 15-year old Abraash Khan. West Indies reached 123/1 after 25 overs, Shimron Hetmyer had been run out for 39 in the thirteenth over when 62 runs were on the board.

Hetmyer produced all the runs from the bat in the early going, Chanderpaul did not get off the mark until late in the eighth over. Chanderpaul made his first run off the 20th ball he faced, while partner Hetmyer had notched 26 runs from 27 balls. Rajasingham’s opening spell of four overs cost 14 runs; quite good for his first game of the competition proper. Hidden in those 14 runs conceded were six wides by the time he had bowled two balls that counted as part of his opening over.
Hetmyer went after Nitish Kumar’s bowling hitting three boundaries from the Canadian captain’s opening over. Arman Kapoor gained the credit for running out Hetmyer for 39 when the West Indies had reached 62. Hetmyer’s 39 came from 42 balls and included a six and four boundaries.
Chanderpaul was begining to gain momentum and Solozano tried to move the score along. The top three in the West Indies batting line-up are all left-handers. Canada tried a mixture of bowling, including leg-spin from Trevor Manoosingh and the left-arm spin of Farhan Malik.

At the mid-point of the West Indies innings Malik had bowled four overs for 12 runs, Keenen Tinto had opened with three overs of pace for 14 runs, and Nikhil Dutta bowled three overs of off-spin for 16 runs. Nitish Kumar had returned to the attack with two tighter overs, and Talha Shaikh had bowled fiver overs at a cost of 30 runs.
West indies paced their innings well, and Pooran with 67 from 42 balls allowed them to reach a big total.
Canada lost Rao with 35 on the board, and Aurka (23) to a run-out but Kumar and Dutta put together a solid partnership. Kumar reached his half century from 55 balls with 6 boundaries but was dismissed on the same score. Tahla Shaikh (45) and Dutta put on 88 before their partnership was ended by a run out, and then two quick wickets fell. Canada had fallen well behind the run rate, and needed 90 from the last five overs. Dutta was run out for 62, a good innings but ultimately too slow, as it took 107 balls and only two boundaries. Canada were bowled out with three balls remaining, and lost by 63 runs. They now play in the 9th place play-off quarter final on Saturday.
Scorecard

93 from Tagenarine Chanderpaul (son of Shrivanine) led West Indies to 289/4 as they took on Canada in the U19 World Cup.
