{"id":59,"date":"2010-05-18T11:43:40","date_gmt":"2010-05-18T15:43:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.canadacricket.com\/?p=59"},"modified":"2010-05-18T11:44:14","modified_gmt":"2010-05-18T15:44:14","slug":"progress-in-probe-into-missing-funds-at-cricket-club-south-asian-focus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.canadacricket.com\/?p=59","title":{"rendered":"Progress in probe into missing funds at cricket club (South Asian Focus)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By NOUMAN KHALIL<br \/>\nThe York Region Police&#8217;s criminal investigation team is rapidly progressing towards solving the mysteriously missing funds case at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, reliable sources told Focus.<br \/>\nAccording to the sources, the team received some important bank records, which provided a vital clue that can be a big step forward towards solving the case.<\/p>\n<p>The records show that some cheques were issued to at least one individual and later withdrawn costing the club more than $40,000.<br \/>\n<!--more--><br \/>\nThe investigation team began a probe Mar 18 on the complaint of current president Pandit Basdeo Maharaj due to mysterious shortage of more than $100,000.<\/p>\n<p>Maharaj had earlier told Focus he was looking for missing cheque stubs, invoices and records of receipts issued to contractors.<\/p>\n<p>T&#038;DCA polls probe<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario Cricket Association (OCA) probe committee is meanwhile set to begin its investigation into the alleged irregularities in the Toronto and District Cricket Association elections held in Toronto Mar 28.<\/p>\n<p>Focus has learnt that OCA president Mike Kendall sought an explanation from the T&#038;DCA, but didn&#8217;t receive any response from the league.<\/p>\n<p>Kendall later appointed an investigation body headed by Balwant Bajwa, senior coordinator of OCA and former president of Ottawa Valley Cricket Club.<\/p>\n<p>Other two members of the committee are Faheem Ataullahjan, a resident of Brampton and retired Pakistan Army officer, and Francis Currie, who has TTC management experience with a background in dispute resolution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By NOUMAN KHALIL The York Region Police&#8217;s criminal investigation team is rapidly progressing towards solving the mysteriously missing funds case at Maple Leaf Cricket Club, reliable sources told Focus.
