A memorial service was held on June 9 to commemorate Jon and the others who had been similarly generous. Friends and family placed roses and other flowers on the memorial, but lying amongst them could be found\u00a0a cricket ball, inscribed with Jon&#8217;s motto &#8220;Always keep playing with a straight bat&#8221;, placed there by Jon&#8217;s partner in life, Sandy Hennessey.
