These were Bur Oak’s first two games in this year’s championship after an earlier set of four East group games were washed out and re-scheduled for October 17. Middlefield had previously won one and lost one in this East group of seven schools.

Opening bat Jasim Paracha lead with 57 as Middlefield scored 119 from 15 overs against Markville in the first pair of games on Thursday. This total was easily defended as Markville, who entered the day with a record of 1 win and 1 loss, stumbled to 30 all out.
Middlefield followed with a win a comprehensive win against Milliken Mills, whose season came to an end with a sixth loss from six games. Milliken Mills had lost to Bur Oak in the day’s first pair of matches. The score on the YRAA website currently shows as Middlefield 127, Milliken Mills 47, but Middlefield surely scored more runs fuelled by a second wicket partnership that, seemingly, took them to 156 or 165.
A Middlefield total of 156/1 from 15 overs seemed, last night, to balance to Hafeez Khan 79*, opener Adil Shah 44*, Jasim Paracha 14 and 19 extras (3 leg-byes and 16 wides).
Bur Oak bowled out Milliken Mills for 51 and comfortably reached 52 to win the school’s first game of the day. The 3pm starts were advanced to 2.30pm and Bur Oak soon picked up a couple of early wickets against Markville. Markville’s innings never gained much momentum and a total of 47 all out was not likely to trouble Bur Oak. Indeed, Bur Oak posted 48/1 and had left the ground well before the Middlefield-Milliken Mills game concluded.
Next Tuesday (October 11) there is one scheduled East group game between Pierre Elliot Trudeau SS and Father McGivney Catholic Academy. This is followed by two days with four East group games per day next Friday (October 14) and the following Monday (October 17).
Four games are scheduled for next Thursday (October 13) at Maple Leaf Cricket Club to conclude the West group. The semi-finals (12pm) and final (3pm) of the YRAA Boys Varsity Tier 1 Cricket Championship are scheduled at McCowan Reservoir on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. The McCowan Reservoir cricket grounds are just south of the Markham Fairgrounds, near the corner of Major Mackenzie Drive East and McCowan Road, Markham.

Bur Oak

Milliken Mills

Markville

Middlefield

Bur Oak Secondary School and Middlefield Collegiate Institute each won twice on Thursday (October 6, 2016) in the East group of the York Region Athletic Association (YRAA) Boys Varsity Cricket championships at McCowan Reservoir, Markham, Ontario.
