"This is what the Associates wanted--more matches."

Yeah, but against the same old bunch of teams over and over. No matches
against better quality teams--Netherlands, Ireland, 'Ghanies, Zimbos, etc.--until the Qualifier...
if they make it that far. :( :x

Vanuatu stuns Singapore in the 1st match of round 3. Canada need to get a win under their belt against Qatar to avoid tricky games.

Canada with the not totally impressive victory over Qatar by four wickets. Maybe it was a tricky batting pitch? Kirton with the excellent 65* off 81 and Kaleem Sana with the 5fer. Ravinderpal Singh again out for not very many. I was a bit surprised to see Kirton in at #4 and very surprised to see Dutta in at #6. Trying out some options I suppose?

Re: Qatar match
The win was unconvincing but a welcome start regardless. The batting is a concern. I imagine Dhaliwal will return for the Playoff Qualifier but the rest of the top and middle order has not been set. Weijeyeratne seems to be the best of the wicket keeper-batsmen options but where do Johnson, Pargat Singh, Spoors, Kirton and Ravinderpal Singh fit? Are there better options and is there sufficient time to figure it out?

The organizers tried to make the schedule in such a way as to maintain some sort of drama but the teams are not doing their part. Singapore lost to fifth place Vanuatu and Denmark lost to last place Malaysia so Canada is likely to have two or even three completely meaningless games which I'm sure they will use to tinker and give all of the players time in the middle.

I'm going to bed. Canada win the tournament with three games to go. Pargat Singh with a big 83, Dutta with 53* with many of them coming off the last over, and Thaker with a good 41. Singapore just don't have the firepower to get 300 and had trouble with the spinners. Also, I don't get these Associate guys trying trick shots! The 6th wicket was bowled trying a ramp shot. I mean...

Canada showed some batting resilience, able to approach 300 with a fast start from Johnson and strong efforts from P. Singh, Thaker and Dutta. Interested to see what Canada do when Dhaliwal returns. Who opens and who can effectively come in at #3 ?

In one aspect, Covid has helped Canada's team. Challenge League A was originally supposed to wrap up in July of 2021. Postponements have caused it to be pushed back by 17 months with 2 rounds played this year. This has reduced the gap between the Challenge League A and Qualifier Playoff (50 over cricket) by almost a year-and-a-half. It also allowed Canada's team to evolve with new players like Johnson, Spoors and Pargat Singh emerging/becoming eligible.

Kirton out and Movva is keeping. Why would a Danish guy, on the 2nd ball he faces, try a reverse sweep?

Have Matthew Spoors and Ammar Khalid returned home ? They haven't played yet this round. Now would have been the time for Spoors in particular to show he should keep his place in the pool.

Disappointing to see Thaker not doing so well with the ball. Prior to this tour he had been a very impressive all-rounder. Canada need him back on form soon. However, his batting has not suffered.

It's really bothering me seeing these guys run like the over 50s. I'm sure they're leaving runs out there by walking to the other end. They shouldn't make any assumptions about the quality of the fielding. There'll be mistakes, especially if they are running hard looking for twos! Canada scoring a little slowly it seems to me. 77-2 after 21 overs.
