Cricket Canada announcements and news
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
In the 2nd 50-0ver game between Oman and Canada, there is an interview with Canada team manager Alphonso Franco after the 13.2 overs. He says "we have a roster of 50-60 people back home. They'll all be used as we go forward because the schedule is going to be much more demanding...We'll be back again in the month of February again. February-March".
Isn't the next tournament in April? Maybe a tour before then? The next tournament after the Challenge League is ODIs so there must be funding to go with that.
I don't think we have 50 international standard players. Maybe some A tour?

Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
^ If Canada were involved in such an extensive tour in Oman prior to Challenge League, it stands to reason that they would have good preparation in anticipation of advancing to the Qualifier Playoff in April. So we knew there would be money available. But to say "the schedule is going to be much more demanding" ? For how long? Canada will have a huge task in trying to regain ODI status at the Qualifier Playoff. Beyond that, it is not realistic to say they will have a busy schedule. If we end up back in the Challenge League, the schedule is rather sparse. So what do they know that we don't?

"Canadian Sports Investment Group Launches ‘Boundaries North’ to Drive Growth for Cricket in Canada"
https://www.cricketcanada.org/news-deta ... -in-Canada
Cricket Canada is forming a "strategic alliance" with WEIC (Women, Emerging, Inclusive) Sports United to grow the sport in Canada. It is all very vague at this stage but the initiative, Boundaries Canada, mentions investment in infrastructure and opportunities for cricketers - areas that could definitely do with help for Canadian cricket.
WEIC seems to be newly formed, only mentioning involvement with the Toronto Arrows rugby franchise on their roster at the moment. I'm not sure how they make money out of their associations with sports. Perhaps they invest early in the areas they see as growing and take a cut of any commercial sponsorships they bring in to the sport.
Women's cricket must be a major area of growth if CC's target of 500000 participant is to be realized by 2033. I won't hold my breath for that - it would certainly require more infrastructure (cricket pitches). However, if a cricket stadium and some form of CC training centre can be achieved, then the alliance might be deemed successful.

Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
Cricket Canada FB has announced journalist Vivek Jacob in a role where he will be creating content regarding the national teams, programs, etcetera. This should be a positive step, providing fans with more information albeit filtered through CC's lens. It seems this would be a part-time effort for Mr Jacob.
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
Looks like Canada is ranked 17 in ODIs. Minimum eight games.
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
At the recent USA National Championships they lost games. It wasn’t raining but the outfield was wet. Ummmmm….King City? Canada is hosting ODIs later this year. What is CC doing about the facilities? Genuine question.
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
I know. I've mentioned this a few times. Games at King City are at risk with even moderate rainfall. The ICC know this and may be pushing CC to improve the situation.
They really need the "National Stadium" or at least an ICC-approved ground where they can set up some temporary bleachers when necessary. The GT20 could be played there as well. Brampton seems like the most likely venue. With the interest surrounding the T20 WC, more funding available, sponsors coming aboard, a willing mayor of Brampton, GT20 interest and Boundaries North on board, now is probably the optimal time to get something done.
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
Nothing will be built. Last survey showed 66% of Brampton residents don't want stadium.
Re: Cricket Canada announcements and news
Canada set to play lots of cricket this summer.
League 2 in Namibia in March, USA in June and hosting in August for 12 ODIs
T20WC qualifying in Aug or Sept. A double round robin makes
6 T20i
North America T20 in April. At least four games.
T10 in July
A proposed tri series with Pakistan and USA
Women’s qualifier
Also add any tour matches and hopefully A team games.
