Cancelled for 2025 : https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ ... -1.7589244

Not sure there is reason to be optimistic for future years. Another fail for Cricket Canada. Well, at least they won't have the excuse that playing GT20 made them forget how to play ODIs like with the 2024 Netherlands CWC League 2.

And what happened to the Canada Super60 ? July 2025 they said. It doesn't sound like Brampton mayor Patrick Brown knows anything about it. We've gone from two franchise tournaments scheduled in Brampton to zero.

LOL! Old boy, this is North American cricket. It's always been happy
hunting ground for Snake Oil Salesmen.  As for the Brampton ground...
that'll come about when Trump makes Canada the 51st state.

Looks like BdJ was saying GT20 was dead back in May (Reddit) and has been proven right.

I even heard about the Super60 on the radio. The station is owned by Rogers Communications and the stadium is sponsored by Rogers so there’s some involvement there.

^ Well, that's something I suppose.

I would guess Super60 moved their event date and location once they heard GT20 had new ownership only for that tournament to go on hiatus again. Super60 indoors could work on a novelty basis as did cricket in the Skydome (now Roger's Centre) in 1989. Would the owners seek to move in back to Brampton next summer if GT20 is out of the way ?

Reports say GlobalT20 will return this July/August somewhere in Toronto.
Outfit running this is National League Cricket in Dallas.
They've been losing $$$ ever since they started. Lets
see if they do any better up north.

Cricket West Indies plan "strategic partnership" with GT20 (now operated by National Cricket League).
https://www.windiescricket.com/news/cri ... in-canada/

Among the partnership discussions:
  • CWI taking ownership stake in GT20
  • development opportunities for Canadians at a future CWI High Performance centre
  • "facilitation" for participation of Canadian teams in CWI tournaments
West Indies administration will be looking to tap into the Canadian market, though it isn't yet clear that there is a Canadian market for cricket outside of sponsorship agreements targeted at South Asian communities. CWI has been half-heartedly trying to monetize the popularity of cricket in North America with those communities for several years now. They still have not hit on a way to do so and the local boards can't do much to help. Cricket just may not be there yet.

Yeah, this is just the latest "strategic partnership" scheme Windies have
been peddling for years, both north and south of the border. Nothing has
every come out of any of them, at least not to the benefit of North American
cricket. Windies cricket lost millions last year. Looks like a desperate attempt
to recoup this loss through North American cricket.

I don't think CWI has been half hearted. I think they tried the original GT20 to see if there was fan interest to start a team in the CPL. There was not. This definitely sounds like a strategic plan. ie we'll see what transpires over several years. BTW Canada is the "sport's next great frontier?"
