A thread for Cricket Canada in the news.

First item: Prime Minister Trudeau's visit to India

Justin rockin' a CC shirt. He wore it well. A small coup for Cricket Canada that helps a bit with the brand awareness both in India and Canada. Hopefully, it tweaks the interest of a sponsor.

Yeah the publicity is good for cricket around here, but I remember the foreign minister in the Conservative gov't having a photo op and an announcement of a tour by an Indian team which never materialized. This is mostly to appeal to immigrant community voters. Gift horse I suppose.

Cricket West Indies and Pakistan Cricket Board apparently exploring ways to tap into their Canadian and American based diasporas:

CWI’s association with Pakistan isn’t restricted to on-field matters. Grave revealed some of the other proposals in the pipeline. “We won’t make short-term money out of the series but we are working on a joint strategy with Pakistan to support Canada and US cricket and obviously to help bring cricket back to Pakistan,” he says. “We have started to explore with PCB opportunities to partner together in economic terms.

“We are looking at ways to increase resources, and to tap into the huge expat communities for both of us is in Canada and the USA. We’re trying to see how we can support their development, take top-level international cricket there, and engage these expat communities.”

So ... a website for Nitish Kumar? : http://www.canadacricket.com/?p=13246
There is not much content other than a few articles and a brief listing of his accomplishments.

The obvious questions would be:
What is the purpose of the site ?
How will it benefit Nitish Kumar ?
Why now ?
Is this part of some bigger promotion of cricket ?

Why when things start to go better does Cricket Canada manage to make it all look worse ?
Dropping top players, firing a coach on the eve of a world cup ? Is this what the corporate sponsors want to see ?

I don’t agree with Fardin Kibria’s article. I said earlier I think Thaker being out is no huge loss. He’s not the best player on the team. Zafar is. Dhaliwal was the second highest run scorer in the Challenge League and he missed the final segment of the competition. He happened to get 61 against the USA and, I think, should be opening. I thought I saw Pubudu on the broadcast of the USA game. No? Of course, Thaker should have been treated more professionally. BTW, across the entire world, it’s not cricket if there isn't controversy.

^ Yes, it seems that the "firing" did not eventually happen. However, there are at least a couple of articles mentioning it and a few messages on CC Facebook that would make it seem there was more than just smoke.

Things were not exactly running smoothly before but as soon as this new board took office it just seems problems started to emerge - an initial squad including players that had not played a T20I in years while dropping some mainstays, then a movement to push out a coach. I hope things are going to settle down over the summer. The organization needs some stability as they head into an important period when GT20 and League 2 will be played.
