Well! Canada's foremost cricket journalist doing an exclusive interview for Canada Cricket Online : https://www.canadacricket.com/?p=13662
Very impressive! Thank you, Faraz and CanadaCricket.com.

Sounds like Coach Dassanayake and staff have a big job ahead of them to get the team physically and mentally prepared in such a short timeline (by April next year). It is too bad Canada didn't get him in place months, if not a year earlier. However, he inspires confidence. If anyone can get the most out of this current team, it will be this coach. Canada are back on the right track.

As an aside, it is sad that this thread has not been updated in years. Such is the level of our cricket that no one can make a living, even part-time, writing about the sport. Successive boards not having much to say about anything doesn't help.

"..boards not having much to say about anything..."

And don't expect that to change, old boy! Only be
exposed, embarrassed, and shown up for their pathetic incompetency
and failures.

We’re more of a T20 team than an ODI team

Ooooohhhhhh! This is in line with what I say that the bowling is better than the batting.
It’s interesting that he’s so blunt about the Challenge League. He’s right but I wouldn’t expect to hear it like that from the coach.
I remember the Sri Lanka series. Canada got walloped 7 times and then won the 8th in a low scoring game. Not to say the hosts turtled or anything 😆

Interview by Emerging Cricket with CC President Bajwa:
https://emergingcricket.com/insight/cri ... n-of-gt20/

Highlights:
  • Canada looking to build player pool. (Retaining players was difficult without ODI status, central contracts).
  • CC considering offering 15 central contracts.
  • President hopes GT20 will be a regular feature on schedule.
  • Article mentions Nitish Kumar as "still playing in national colours".
  • CC, cricket communities and investors have spent 18 months of effort on Boundaries North partnership.
Thoughts:
  • It would be helpful if Nick Kirton can remain within the Barbados setup and Matthew Spoors can find cricket opportunities in Australia so they don't need CC contracts. So too for Nitish Kumar and MLC, if he is indeed still part of the national team.
  • It is concerning that Bajwa doesn't speak with more confidence about GT20's future.
  • It's encouraging that "investors and commercial stakeholders" were involved in Boundaries North. We have to hope CC were working with the right people to tell them what must be done to be attract commercial sponsorship.

(Yawn) Same old, same old. Checked the WEIC, Boundaries North websites and once again
all you see is empty rhetoric. Not a single actual initiative, program, or undertaking is listed.
I guess they figure half a million cricketers will miraculously appear.
