U19 WC

Post by Victorian » Mon Nov 08, 2021 12:54 am

Apparently Uganda will prepare for a month against an India Academy side. What are Canada’s plans?

The groups and warm-up games schedule for 2022 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in West Indies has been announced, with the main draw tournament matches taking place across venues in Trinidad and Tobago, Guyana and St Kitts & Nevis from January 14th – February 05th. All the participants will play their two (2) official warm-up fixtures from January 09th – 12th prior to the start of the main draw.

The top 11 teams from the 2020 edition of the World Cup in South Africa were joined by the winners of the five regional qualifiers (Ireland, Papua New Guinea, Canada, United Arab Emirates and Uganda) in the main draw of the tournament. The top two (2) teams in each group at the end of single round-robin group stage format will advance to the quarterfinals stage of the tournament, while the bottom two (2) teams from each group will contest in the Plate Championships to decide the final positions in the 16-team event.

Canadian-raised cricketer, Matthew Nandu in the West Indies U19 pool.

(Also profiled in Wickets Oct 2021 edition)

Hopefully, he can make a go of it in the WI professional ranks but does not succeed too much so he rejoins Canada in a few years. :D

The WI team will have a high performance camp. The Canadians can’t just show up and compete!

History, a lack of new funding and a pandemic says this is exactly what Cricket Canada is planning.

New Zealand U19s are withdrawing. They are replaced by Scotland.

Group D, which had been the only one without an Associate now has one.

The Zimbabwe u19s are playing many games against franchise teams, including Zim internationals. And a fan forum is saying they are going to be badly unprepared. Nothing like the Canadians!
