From cricinfo

“Overall, 68 nations will start at the sub-regional qualifiers, with 28 of those entering later once the results of this year's T20 World Cup and the automatic qualifiers for 2024 are known. The 68 teams will seek to progress from the first step and will be spread across 10 sub-regional qualifiers: 16 from Africa (two events), eight from the Americas (one event), nine from Asia (two events), seven from the EAP (two events) and 28 teams competing from Europe across their three events.

From the two sub-regional qualifiers in Africa that will feature 16 teams, four will progress to the regional Africa finals in 2023, and eventually two for the main event in 2024. Eight teams from the Americas sub-regional qualifiers will fight for three spots in the regional Americas finals next year, who will then compete along with Canada for one final spot for 2024.”

So it seems there will be an Americas qualifier with 8 teams with 3 teams then playing a qualifier with Canada for one spot. The USA qualifies automatically as a co host.

Wonder whether Canada might host the Americas final qualifying tournament.

CC needs to get serious about the tournament now. Select a pool of 20 probables and have them assemble to practice. They might even play some training matches against some league all-stars or the visiting Challenge League squads.

Suriname? So happy to see them back in the Americas! 2023 shaping up to be a huge year for Canada cricket. A tour before ODIs in April and the T20 qualifier in September. Hopefully some warmups for that as well

^ ... and Suriname are out of the 2023 T20 sub-regional. I haven't seen a reason but that board seems to be very badly run. I believe they've been suspended before and I don't think this is the first time they have withdrawn/been kicked out of a tournament.

Panama ‘qualifies’ with one win in four games! Brutal. I’m a little worried about Bermuda but Canada should have the best NRR in the next comp.

I say this every tournament - what preparation will there be for this tournament. It starts on Sept. 30 and Canada’s toughest opposition is first…Bermuda.

^ I would hope there will be a short training camp in Toronto before flying to Bermuda. However, for the bulk of September, the US's Minor League Cricket will have to serve as preparation for the majority of the team. It might even be a better level of preparation than Canada has had for previous T20 qualifiers.

Bermuda seems to be getting their best training possible hosting a T20 tournament with guest teams from Antigua and Barbados.

Edit: Indeed, Canada did travel to Houston to play some practice matches in preparation for the Americas qualifier.
