Seen reports the ICC is going to scrap the current qualification format
(World Cup and Challenge leagues). No surprise. Must be incredibly
expensive for ICC to foot the bill for so many matches played all around
the world. No word yet on a replacement format but will probably go back to a
single tournament arrangement as in the past.

There's a deep flaw in the Byzantine qualifying process the ICC has set up
for the 2023 WC. The 4-7th place teams in the League 2 will now be joined
by the top two teams from the Challenge league for a "Qualifier Playoff,"
with the top two teams from this competition then moving on to the 10 team qualifier.
So its actually going to be EASIER for the Challenge league teams to
advance since they only have to get past the bottom four (weaker) teams of
the League 2 rather than having to play the stronger teams. Whole arrangement should be scrapped.

There’s some weird thing too about the top 5 keep ODI status no matter what happens in the qualifier. The #6-7 might lose ODI status.

This is how I see things playing out for 2023 WC qualification: assuming Namibia gets the
third spot in the League 2, and the Canucks advance from the Challenge League,
then this pre-qualifier qualifier will have "Team USA", Canada, Nepal, UAE, PNG and the
second place finisher from the Challenge League. "Team USA" and Canada should almost
certainly be the top two finishers in this competition and so move onto the 10
team WC qualifier. A backdoor way for "Team USA" and Canucks getting to the qualifier
thanks to the Byzantine ICC system.

Also Jersey who won the other Challenge League. I don’t think USA and Canada are sure to beat UAE and Nepal. Should be close though.

No, "Team USA" and Canucks should be heavy favorites. May come down
to how that pre-Qualifier is arranged; a single tournament
or home/away matches for all teams. ICC just making everyone
jump through more hoops. Any team from the World League that
advances will have played over 40 matches just to reach the WC Qualifier!
What other sport has such a drawn out qualification system! :o :x

I’ve heard Vanuatu and (I think) Denmark have a warm up game so I suppose Canada will as well?

Czarsports had a list of warm-ups for the Challenge League A. The Denmark/Vanuatu match was listed along with a pair of Malaysia/Singapore games. I didn't see anything for Canada or Qatar.

As for the "drawn-out" nature of the qualification, this is what the Associates wanted - more matches. The top Associates get 36 games and the 2nd tier gets 15. However, the ICC has now abandoned lower tiers which had been part of the old World Cricket League.
