Canada lost in their opener of the SL tour. Had they won, I'm sure it would be all over CC social media. Nervermind, Czarsportz to the rescue with their Twitter feed:

Canada Tour of Sri Lanka: 1st One-Day: SL Dev XI 257 all out beat Canada 232 all out by 25 runs at Colts Cricket Club ground. Matthew Spoors top scores for Canada with 80.
Hope we'll see some scorecards from the tour soon but can't count on it.

United Arab Emirates and Papua New Guinea will fishing 6th and 7th respectively in the 2019-23 edition of Cricket World Cup League 2 competition. In the Qualifier Playoff, Canada must finish ahead of 2 of Jersey, UAE and PNG to regain ODI status and play the next CWC League 2. UAE are finishing in very poor form while PNG are playing better of late. But in the end it is only form during the QP tournament that matters.

Canada lose the 3rd one-day match of 4:
https://cricheroes.in/scorecard/6044646 ... scoreboard

12 played for Canada today, it seems. Jeremy Gordon bowled but did not bat. SL Dev may have played 14 according to the website.

Other than Spoors, who apparently has scores of 80 and 52 in two (known) matches, it is hard to say how well preparations are going. Probably not Canada's best XI today but a win would have been nice. Just over a week to figure things out.

Update: CC FB has posted the results of the first two tour matches, Canada losing the first and winning the second.

CWC Qualifier Playoff teams set:
Namibia (host), Canada, Jersey, PNG, UAE, USA

Namibia will be favorites to advance to the WC Qualifier as hosts. The host and USA cannot be relegated to the Challenge Leagues so Canada is competing to play the next CWC League 2 against UAE, PNG and Jersey. Canada must finish ahead of two of those teams.

It's clear from the recently completed League 2 and previous qualifiers that anyone can beat anyone on the day.

Canada squad for QP:

Saad Bin Zafar (Captain)
Nikhil Dutta
Jeremy Gordon
Dilon Heyliger
Aaron Johnson
Ammar Khalid
Nicholas Kirton
Parveen Kumar
Shreyas Movva
Kaleem Sana
Pargat Singh
Ravinderpal Singh
Matthew Spoors
Harsh Thaker
Srimantha Wijeyeratne

Navneet Dhaliwal, former captain and top Canadian scorer at Challenge League is surprisingly dropped. Wonder whether he was actually in the touring party. We await the coach's preferred XI in the first match.

I got this...
"We played 4 games in total against SL selects included Kushal Perera, Asalanka and about 6 other Sr Lankan player Embuldiniya was also one of them. We lost the 1sy game by 30 runs or less, the other two losses were by 1 run. All these chaps have played for SL and are making a comeback."
Some information on socials would be obvious in 2023! Maybe some highlights somewhere!

"Team USA" easily beats Namibia! Now Canada's gonna have to beat both these teams to advance.

Not an ideal start for Canada against Jersey. Not having the experienced opener Dhaliwal is a real blow. I have not been convinced by Johnson, Spoors and Kirton and nothing has changed today. The good news was that the middle and bottom order fought to salvage a decent total. Canada have to bowl out Jersey.

... and bowl out Jersey they did. After a good start to Jersey's innings, Canada finally started to make breakthroughs in the middle overs. Some crucial wickets by the captain and dismissal from Wijeyeratne. Canada win their first ODI in 9 years and just avoid having their tournament derailed but will have figure out the batting quickly. The Americans are next and will prove a good test.
