Canada @ 2024-6 CWC League 2

Post by ray » Tue Sep 12, 2023 7:33 pm

This article seems like as good a reason as any to start a thread for Canada's League 2 campaign :
https://www.bnnbloomberg.ca/corporation ... -1.1964703

It mentions the national team (14 members) as receiving "salaries that average about $55,000 to $65,000" on contract for a year at a time. Also, the team is to play "about 40 official one day contests". That likely means 42 ODIs, playing each of Canada's seven League 2 opponents 6 times.

Canada will travel to Dubai to face the host United Arab Emirates and Scotland.
https://www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/spo ... 12578.html
The Canadian men resume one-day international play in February with a three-match series with Scotland and the United Arab Emirates in Dubai. Zafar expects to be on the road most of the winter preparing for the T20 World Cup around that one-day schedule.
Good news that Canada will be busy (or busier) this winter as they have much work to do to match the more experienced sides in CWC League 2.

Speaking of the CWC, is the ICC going to continue with it? Haven't seen any
mention of it.

Nepal board have released their 2024 schedule!
https://nitter.net/pic/orig/media%2FGC_sTpdWEAARgTE.jpg

It includes a proposed bilateral ODI series (for Nepal and Nepal A) against Canada in Nepal in February - this would be helpful preparation for both teams prior to their respective League 2 commitments.

In September Canada hosts a League 2 tri-nation, followed by T20Is and the return bilateral ODI series against Nepal.

As pointed out by Bertus de Jong, the schedule hints at First Class cricket for Nepal in December 2024. Is this the high performance plan the ICC were to discuss at their last board meeting ? Would Canada be included ? We'll have to wait and see.

From the looks of Nepal's schedule, it seems Canada can expect three League 2 series in 2024. The schedule also shows just how active Nepal's men are - something Canada can only dream of.

Cricket Canada has announced their touring party for Hong Kong, Nepal and likely the kickoff of their League 2 campaign in UAE.
The surprising omission is Kaleem Sana, who had good success in 2023.

New inclusions are:
Ajayveer Hundal 18yrs, former Canada U19 (British Columbia)
Ishwarjot Sohi 29yrs (Alberta)
Sahib Malhotra 31yrs (Ontario)
Uday Bhagwan 22yrs (British Columbia)
Udaybir Walia 21yrs, former Canada U19 (British Columbia)
Yuvraj Samra 17yrs (Ontario)

Pleasing to see Canada bringing new talent into the fold.

Canada off on a month-and-a-half tour to Hong Kong and Nepal (not yet announced) prior to their debut in the League 2 competition (hosted by UAE) in March (also not announced). The ICC seems reluctant to provide details of the first round of League 2. Nevertheless, It will be a great chance for Canada to get some one-day practice after a long break and see new talent. T20Is in UAE will help prepare for the T20 WC.
