Cricket Canada announcements and news

Post by ray » Sat Jul 28, 2018 7:52 pm

A thread for future news & announcements of which there could be many if the organization does have a partner with financial means (Mercuri) and has indeed turned a corner in terms of being more open.

First item: the launch of CC's new monthly online magazine, "Wickets" - part of their strategic plan which includes promoting the organization and cricket.

Good to see. I can hardly be against it because I was suggesting something along these lines over a decade ago to a previous leader. Well, it's finally here. Have to hope we'll get more information about men's and women's teams as well as youth cricketers.

While many things have to go CC's way and there is plenty of work to do, for the first time in a long time CC actually have some good news to share.

Cricket Canada National T20, scheduled for Aug 15th-17th to act as trials for 60 players in advance of the the Americas sub-regional qualifier next month in the US.
MLCC will host.

CC Summer Festival (August 27 to September 7) is back featuring 4 sides playing 50 over and T20 formats. (Expected teams: Canada, Canada A, West Indies A, Americas).

Both the above tournaments are good chances for selectors to see up-and-coming talent and for players to short-list themselves for national team selection.

St. Vincent and Grenadines Cricket Association still indicating Canada is to play the one-day portion of the Cricket West Indies U19 tournament. Still no news from CC either about a Canadian side or Canadian players for a combined Americas team. First scheduled match Thursday, August 16th.

Edit: Canadian U19 team participation confirmed by CC (August 13th)

Not exactly news but ...
During the CricketFest CBC stream of the Canada vs Canada A T20 match, Daulat Khan (Canada assistant coach from Afghanistan) was interviewed. He mentioned President Saini telling him an academy would be started "inToronto". Perhaps something to watch out for in the next few months.

The 5th edition of CC's Wickets on-line magazine (https://cricketcanada.org/wickets-magazine/) announces the following for 2019:
  • The dates for ICC WCL Division 2: April 18-28
  • The ICC Americas T20 Qualifier will be played in July (no host mentioned)
  • The next Global T20 Canada will again be held in July with more than 40 Canadians expected to participate
  • The ICC Americas Women's T20 Qualifier will be played in the May-June period (no host determined)
  • The ICC Americas U19 World Cup Qualifier will be played July
So a busy 2019 ahead for Canada, particularly the month of July.

Also says the 2019 Canada T20 will be held in Toronto and will
have twice as many Canuck players. If true, all teams will again be
playing in just one location. More Canuck players...lower quality :?: :?: :?:

New Cricket Canada website = good news only.

This is laughable. The site was updated to give information about Canada's women defeating the Americas development side but then doesn't mention the heavy defeats at the hands of the Americans in the actual qualifier series.

Meanwhile we still await word of how the Canada fared at WCL2.

While I want to believe Cricket Canada are making progress administratively, they continue to show otherwise. Blatantly restricting the site to good new only makes the organization look worse.

Cricket Canada Sports Portal

Post by ray » Fri Jul 26, 2019 2:09 pm

The Cricket Canada Sports Portal was promised some time back. Apparently it is in the testing phase. Would be nice if it could be viewed by all.

https://www.facebook.com/GoCricketGoCan ... tn__=EHH-R
It’s here and live ... Global T20 Canada Season 2 and live scoring on Cricket Canada Sports Portal ... came live together.

The sports portal is in soft launch and testing stage. It’s being tested by Calgary Cricket Community. Highly thankful to Alberta Cricket Association for their support in launching the portal.

Once the portal is in full use. It will bring all players and leagues that are associated with Cricket Canada under one system. It will eliminate duplication and players records will be maintained in one place.

A player could move from one league to another or play in many leagues but have all records in his/her profile. This will help selections and monitoring of performance easy and efficient.

A picture of first scoring of our new system done live. Congrats to Vancouver Knights for winning the match.

Not exactly news in itself but ... Cricket Canada has apparently launched the long-promised update of the website. Some of the content appears to have been carried over unchanged (financial statements, etc). The 2022-26 strategic plan is there, though and the Match Centre is a nice feature.

As always, content is king. How often and accurately the site is updated will determine its usefulness.
