Now to turn at least a bit of attention to the Women’s Championship. According to the app there are teams representing BC, the Prairies, Ontario Fire, Ontario Heat and the Atlantic. Four games a day for five days.

Well ... Canada have quite a challenge to build a player pool on the women's side. Even among the stronger sides some of the looping deliveries and shot selection indicate the talent pool is small. Recruitment as much as development will be the path forward.

There’s some u19 and u15 as well but not with Canada involved. That’s so that next time there will have to be an Americas qualifier!

CC Facebook post says the Canadian women will participate in the South American Championship, October 13-16. Brazil, Argentina and Peru appear to be the other participants. This represents the return of what has been an annual tournament for the first time since the start of the pandemic. Chile and Mexico had been involved in the 2019 championship. The Mexican women are named in the following article but are not shown in the CC graphic. Also in the article, Canada are named as a "special invite".

This represents the only international matches for Canada in 2022. If Cricket Canada helped make this happen, good for them. Better see whether a 2023 invite can be arranged.

Such is the sad, sad, state of Canuck women's cricket that
all they can arrange are matches against these mini-minnows. :D :D

This is the perfect competition for the Canadian women. They’ll win a couple of games and get some ranking points and be on the road to further comps.

Actually, Brazil will get the most out of this. If they run the table
and beat the Canucks again will solidify their place as America's
#2 women's side. Canucks pushed further and further to the rear.

South American Championship will have only 4 sides for 2022: Argentina, Brazil, Canada & Peru

Nice compact little tournament featuring 3 round robin matches and a placing match in four days. Canada should finish top two and get a second match against Brazil. This is very useful but the women will need to be more active domestically and internationally to stay in touch with Brazil.

I didn’t realize (notice?) that Rizwan Cheema is the coach. There’s a video of indoor practice. I hope they could get lots of outdoor practice as well. They definitely could have in Vancouver in the last weeks! I wonder about warmup games?
