Their opening win notwithstanding, Canada are still a ways behind the USA. There is hope for a reduction in the gap between the nations as Canada's program matures and perhaps more resources are put behind the Canadian women. CC still has to do a lot to grow the game. The added visibility from the Olympics may help, particularly among women, I believe.
I also have to wonder whether Argentina and perhaps some of the countries where baseball is popular may see a rise in cricket due to Olympic inclusion.

Re: Canadian Women's cricket
Or, baseball could become more popular in cricket countries since the game's now back in the Olympics. Especially since its been proven
baseball runs circles around cricket in promoting their game.

Re: Canadian Women's cricket
USA team was largely American-born (mostly Californians, it seems) and young. Canadian side mostly in their 30s and born overseas, I would think. Another way the American program is well ahead.
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
The Zimbabwe women are touring the USA. It's a shame they won't play Canada while they're here - at least not that we've heard. The Canadian women get a four day T10!
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
u19 Girls National Championship July 16-18 in Brampton. It seems anyone can play. There's a link to register.
Re: Canadian Women's cricket
It seems there were women’s games around the edge of the BC Big Bash last weekend. East Canada v West Canada. That’s all I know. You can watch the game sideways on the BCMCL FB.

I’m not sure what to say.
1. Rizwan Cheema is the head coach of the women’s team and I guess u19 women.
2. He’s not wrong by saying positive things about the talent and CC organizing these events.
3. He singles out a girl who’s an off spinner to watch out for - she's “9 or 10” years old!
I thought from other posts that some of the girls are very young ie maybe 14. It’s good to cast a wide net but this is u19. Obviously not a lot of good teenage players. I wish there were many more HP opportunities for these players.

Re: Canadian Women's cricket
^ This does not inspire confidence in the womens U19 program and the development of womens national teams in general.
Cheema mentions the U19 qualifier next year. Is he saying there will definitely be an Americas U19 womens qualifier (for the first time) and Canada will actually field a team ? How good can the level of competition be at these "U19 Girls Nationals" if young teens are participating ? It seems as though Cricket Canada can't find enough age group women and is forced to make up the numbers with an all-ages tournament.
