The succession of bad off-the-field news continues for CC with captain Nicholas Kirton's arrest in Barbados on charges of marijuana possession. Apart from facing jail time, this could affect his captaincy and place in the team. It could also make his entry into certain countries difficult, like the U.S. in May for League 2.

=====================================================
Update: Kirton has been granted bail and is expected to return to Canada. His court date is June 2nd which might overlap with Canada's participation in the tri-series with USA and Oman. Regardless, Kirton's thoughts will be on matters other than cricket. It would be wise for CC to remove him from the captaincy on a temporary basis, at least.

So far this story has had little play in the Canadian media. However, in the cricket world articles have appeared from the West Indies, to India, to the BBC in the UK and of course, CricInfo. Not a good look for Cricket Canada.

^ I don't pretend to know what obligations Cricket Canada must meet toward Sport Canada as part of the funding they receive, but it is conceivable this would be an issue (preventing abuse, athlete safety). One would expect a considerable increase in funding to be coming with cricket in the Olympics. CC should be doing what they can to get back in CCES's good books.

Cricket Canada Suspends CEO:

CEO Salman Khan is suspended with full pay because of "negativity" towards him. What was he doing anyway ?

Seems as though the organization is back in the CCES Safe Sport fold, though.
