CANADA NOW PLAYING FOR 3 WEEKS PLUS IN TCL GROUP
WEST INDIES UNDER-19 CRICKET CHALLENGE

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, Aug.1, WICB: Canada and Rest of the Americas will
now be the two Americas invitees to the TCL Group West Indies Under-19
Cricket Challenge that opens next week in Guyana.

Canada replaces the United States in Zone-A of the Championship joining
hosts Guyana, three-day title-holders Barbados and the Leeward Islands,
while the Rest of the Americas will take the place of Bermuda in Zone-B
to join defending limited-overs champions Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago
and Windward Islands.

“Canada has qualified for the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh in
February next year and the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Cricket
Challenge is seen as an ideal way for the Canadians to prepare,”
remarked Roger Brathwaite, the Chief Executive Officer of the West
Indies Cricket Board.

“As a result, a Rest of the Americas selection, comprising players from
Bermuda, Cayman Islands, and Argentina, has been included to give the
full complement of eight teams,” he added.

“The development of cricket in the Americas falls under the
responsibility of the WICB and the inclusion of a Rest of the Americas
team is part of the process to strengthen cricket in the rest of the
hemisphere.”

The TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Cricket Challenge opens on Tuesday,
August 5, with the TCL Group Cup, the limited-overs championship,
before the teams change to the three-day format to contest the TCL
Group Challenge, starting on August 12.
