Cricket Canada funding and financials

Post by ray » Tue Sep 20, 2022 3:49 pm

Continuing where this decade old list of Sport Canada funding to Cricket Canada left off ...
https://www.canadacricket.com/?p=3884

Year Funding
2012 $178,000
2013 $135,400
2014 $88,000
2015 $10,000
2016 $80,000
2017 $80,000
2018 $80,000
2019 $80,000
2020 $137,000
2021 $119,500

It would be really interesting to know the reason for the fluctuations in the funding levels. My understanding was that Sport Canada reduced Canada's funding in 2011 because of the way the ICC handed out World Cup places to Full Members. But Canada seems to have pulled in good $$ for a couple years before failing to qualify for the 2015 WC and dropping out of the a top 16 ranking. Government funding has stayed around $80K for many years before another small boost recently. Was this a top-up from Sport Canada to help get through the pandemic ? It might explain how Canada suddenly has money for these HP Leagues and Women's championship but what happens next year ?

Cricket Canada really should be required to publish their financials when they receive government money. No updates for the past two AGMs.

Canada's tour to Brazil for the South American women's championship is sponsored by Galaxy Racer. Nice to see the sponsorship continued after the initial WT20 WC Qualifier for the men. I suppose we'll soon see whether the sponsor is also contributing to the men's Oman tour in November.

If Galaxy Racer is providing substantial funding over an extended period, Cricket Canada should really add an advertising link to their website. It would also give encouragement to other potential sponsors that CC can maintain a corporate relationship.

Article on Cricket Canada's sponsorship agreement with Coca Cola and the arrangement with Boundaries North that helped land it :
https://www.timescolonist.com/indigenou ... ss-8346842

Some highlights:
  • 1 year deal with Coca Cola with option for additional 2 years
  • 60% of CC's funding comes from ICC
  • CC has handed out 12 full-time and 6 part-time player contracts
  • Boundaries North anticipates more corporate sponsorships for CC
  • Boundaries North pays CC a fee for commercial rights to national teams. They share profits from monies brought in.
  • Boundaries North investment has helped Canada tour Hong Kong and Nepal

Very suspicious about this arrangement with BNC. CC has sold
off their rights to an outside organization. Could lead to baaaaad things.
