Canada lost to Barbados in a rain affected match in the Caribbean 20-20. They endured an onslaught from Dwayne Smith but restricted Barbados to a modest 139 from 20 overs. After Canada had collapsed to 15/5 the rain intervened after 6 overs, leaving Canada 33 runs short of the D/L target of 63.
Canada won the toss and chose to field. Khurram Chohan made an excellent start, conceding just a single from his first over. Cheema shared the new ball and was greeted by Dwayne Smith with a straight six. Smith followed up with a pulled four and a huge six off Chohan, prompting Bagai to try spin, with Desai. He and Baidwan kept Smith quiet for a couple of overs, but Smith went over the ropes again in Desai’s next over. With the score 41/0 off 7 overs the rain came down, and play was suspended. Smith continued as he left off when play resumed, and his 66 in 40 balls included 6 sixes. Desai made the first breakthrough, catching Edwards from his own bowling, and Baidwan again bowled impressively bowling his four overs for fifteen runs. Hansra took the wicket of Smith with 100 on the board after13 overs, and canada then restricted Barbados to only 39 runs from the last seven overs. Hansra took two more wickets, and Khurram Chohan also took two wickets.
Any hopes Canada had of a win were dashed in the second over, when Javon Searles dismissed Hiral Patel, Ravindu Gunasekara and Nitish Kumar – all for ducks. Bagai fell to Best in the next over, and Searles took his fourth wicket when Gordon was caught, yet again for a duck. Canada were 15/5, but Surkari and Hansra were providing some resistance when the rain then came down. Canada had batted for 6-overs, and their 29/5 was well behind the D/L target of of 63.
