Cricket Canada yesterday issued a press release promoting the Etihad Summer Festival featuring a three-way international 20-20 tournament, with guests Afghanistan and Trinidad and Tobago.
On the very same day the Trinidad Express report that T+T will not be making the trip to Canada. Roger Seepersad writes as follows:-
“Trinidad and Tobago’s Champions League Twenty20 preparation hit a snag yesterday when it was announced that the national team would not participate in a tri-nations tournament in Canada next month, one of two warm-up events T&T were scheduled to play ahead of their trip to India in September. Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) chairman of selectors Dudnath Ramkessoon, who is also overseeing T&T’s preparations, confirmed yesterday that lack of funds forced the Board to opt out of the tournament, which would have involved hosts Canada and 2010 World T20 participants Afghanistan.”
The withdrawal of Trinidad and Tobago is highly unfortunate, depriving the national team of games against top-class opposition, as is the communications failure that resulted in these conflicting media reports.
