Michael Dighton named National Coach

Michael Dighton has been named Cricket Canada’s National Coach. Dighton, the former Tasmanian batsmen is a veteran of over 60 first class Australian games and was recently the assistant coach for the Netherlands at the 2011 Cricket World Cup in South Asia. Dighton has also had coaching stints as the head coach of the Cricket Australia National Emerging Talent Rookie Squad and the batting coach of the Tasmania u23 side.
Dighton has also had stints with Hampshire, Derbyshire and Netherlands in the English Pro-40 competition. Vimal Hardat, Cricket Canada’s Vice-President was excited to make the announcement from Vancouver this morning.
“We are thrilled to have someone of Michael’s background on board to direct our drive to the 2015 Cricket World Cup and restore our position as one of the top Associate Cricket Nations. Michael’s drive and determination to succeed will be a welcome addition to our programs and we look forward to him joining us.”
Dighton for his part was upbeat and looking forward to the challenge following his arrival in Canada this morning,
“I will place a big emphasis on physical preparation and fielding, the two areas that we can control and always improve on. I will encourage an attacking and dynamic brand of cricket combined with smart decision making…”
