Canada wre unable to back up a good bowling performance with the bat in the second T20 match against Kenya. Kenya had made 139/7, and Canada looked well on their way to a second win at 56/1 after 7 overs, but lost wickets steadily after that point being bowled out for 118.
Kenya after winning the toss and deciding to bat tallied 139 for seven wickets in 20 overs on Saturday (March 16), leaving Canada to score a seven runs per over to win the second T20. A sixth wicket partnership of 57 between Rakep Patel (23) and Ragheb Aga (31) was the main stand. This came after Kenyan captain Collins Obuya fell leg-before wicket to left-arm spinner Hiral Patel for 11. Kenya stood on 76 for five after 12 overs.
Bowling changes produced wickets for Canada in the fifth, sixth and ninth overs. Rizwan Cheema caught a drive from Alex Obanda (12) in the fifth over when Manny Aulakh’s came into the Canadian attack. Irfan Karim was caught at deep-square leg by Raza-ur-Rehman for 15 in the next over, bowled by Jimmy Hansra. Karim had struck two boundaries in the third over off Henry Osinde. Maurice Ouma was bowled by spinner Hiral Patel’s first ball of the ninth over. Ouma scored 13. Tanmay Mishra was caught and bowled by Junaid Siddiqui off the last ball of the twelfth over to leave the East African side on 72 for four wickets. Then Obuya was out to Hiral Patel.
Rakep Patel hit a six to begin the nineteenth over, but Manny Aulkah bowled him on the fifth ball of that over. Nehemiah Odhiambo failed to do damage with the bat and the innings ended with Aga caught in the deep for 33 by Henry Osinde off Rizwan Cheema’s bowling.
Junaid Siddiqui had useful figures of one for 19 in four overs. Hiral Patel took two for 24 in four overs. Rizwan Cheema (1-19) and Jimmy Hansra (1-16) were economical from three overs in the T20 context. Manny Aulakh took 2 for 40 from his four overs.
Cheema hit two boundaries but only lasted 8 bals, leaving it to Patel and Gunasekera to take the score to 56/1. Patel (24) perished in the deep going for a big hit, and the middle order contributed little, Gunssekera (36) 6th out being the exception. Limabada gave Canada some brief hope with 21* from 12 balls, but the tail could not stay with him, and canada were all out for a disappointing 118.
