Mississauga CIMA Mayor’s Boys High Schools play on Tuesday (May 21, 2013)

The City of Mississauga Boys High Schools championship in the CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Championship is scheduled for this coming Tuesday (May 21, 2013) with matches at the Avebury and Iceland cricket grounds normally used by the Mississauga Ramblers.
It will be a busy day of cricket as there are eleven teams involved in the qualifying phase, which begins at 8.45 am. The four group winners are due to meet in semi-final action at 6pm and the Mississauga Final for the CIBC Trophy is due to begin at 7.30 pm at the Iceland ground.
Two qualifying groups of three schools will provide the bulk of the action at the Iceland ground during the day. One group comprises St. Francis, Erindale and Port Credit from which “Winner 1” will emerge. “Winner 2” will be one of Father Goetz, T.L Kennedy and Stephen Lewis (the Mississauga version of this school, not to be confused with the Markham version). These two group winners are due to meet in a semi-final playoff at 6pm at the Iceland ground.
“Winner 3” and “Winner 4” will be decided from the five competing schools at the Avebury Ground. The schools playing at Avebury are: Applewood Heights, Glenforest, Lincoln Alexander, Mount Carmel and West Credit. The winning school from the meeting between “Winner 3” and “Winner 4” then travels to the Iceland ground for the Final.
The official schedule may appear on the CIMA Canada website by the time this summary sees the light of day on Canada Cricket Online, but a copy of the CIMA Draft Tournament Schedule for the Mississauga Boys High Schools event is produced for guidance. It may prove to be the same as the official schedule, and was planned by those involved with Peel Region schools cricket.

This is also the point where the likes of Cricinfo and Cricket Archive point out that they do not control the schedules/fixtures, start times, etc [and far less the weather], but there should be plenty of action at both grounds, even if any late changes in order take place.

The Mississauga Ramblers has hosted inter-schools outdoor cricket in previous years for both boys and girls, where the competing teams were decided by the standings in the Region of Peel Secondary Schools Athletic Association (RoPSSAA) indoor cricket championships.

One of those events ended with photos of the wining team and tournament events being taken against the setting sun, until (in my case) the camera battery died after about twelve hours of intense useage. But one can always learn, and aim to move forward, as is the case with what is effectively a broadened version of those Ramblers organized tournaments that were played for the Mayor Hazel McCallion Trophy. Mayor McCallion has been a driving force for women’s hockey in Canada. This 2013 CIMA Mayor’s Schools Cricket tournament drives a wedge into the Greater Toronto Area, with, perhaps, the prospect of future expansion to the likes of the City of Vaughan (part of York Region), or the Durham region to the east of Toronto. The Ajax Cricket Club in Durham region hosted games in the 2001 ICC Trophy, and subsequently hosted a one-day game between Canada and a West Indies “A” touring team, as well as a warm-up match for a CIMA Cricket Across the Pond tour.
