Results and scorecards now posted on the CIMA Canada website confirm the Mississauga version of Stephen Lewis Secondary School won the CIMA Mayor’s Senior Boys High School championship on Tuesday (May 21, 2013). The Markham version of Stephen Lewis S.S. were not so successful in the City of Markham competition, won by Bur Oak, but there is always the opportunity to improve next year.
Stephen Lewis won the playoff game between the two group winners at the Iceland ground by just two runs against St Francis Xavier. It took a well-bowled last over to achieve this success. Three dot balls – balls with no run scored – to begin that last over began to switch the pressure from the bowling side to the fielding side.
Stephen Lewis score 72 for four wickets from eight overs with opening bats Bilal Khan (33 runs) and Muqtadir Syed (22 runs) leading the way. Opener Hamza Khan (16 runs) and Neil Ramdath (18 not out) were the leading scorers for St Francis Xavier.
Stephen Lewis then played a five over Mississauga Final against Lincoln M. Alexander S.S., who had won the qualifying competition at the nearby Avebury cricket ground. The game was reduced in length due to possible rain from rather threatening skies. Rain which then began to fall.
In this inaugural Mississauga CIBC Trophy final the Stephen Lewis opening bats performed well in difficult conditions. Bilal Khan was run out for 24 and Muqtadir Syed was on 12 not out when the innings closed with 52 runs on the board after five overs. Lincoln M. Alexander, making a first appearance of the day at the Iceland crease, was restricted to 30 runs from five overs.
A round-up of the summary scores from this Mississauga Senior Boys Schools competition will follow in due course, as will new of Friday’s Toronto Senior Boys school playoffs at Sunnybrook Park. (EN)
