More than 2,000 student cricket players from over 100 GTA schools are playing for one of the top honours in Ontario high-school cricket.The CIBC Trophy Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament, now in its fifth year, kicked off this week with regional competitions across the GTA. Five teams will play in the final on May 30 at Sunnybrook Park.
The local tournament is especially important for young cricket players, as the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations, a federation of 18 regional school athletic associations across the province, doesn’t organize a cricket championship. (They do hold tournaments for curling, alpine skiing and golf.)
