Toronto’s annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy cricket tournament a success

City of Toronto media release:
CIBC’s cricket team won the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy for 2015 in an exciting match with the TTC team on Saturday. The Toronto Sun’s employee team won the CIMA Media Trophy and PwC won the CIMA Accountants’ Trophy.

“I was delighted to attend and play cricket at the 11th annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy tournament,” said Mayor John Tory. “I’d like to congratulate all the teams who participated in the spirit of friendship and sport. Thank you to CIMA and all the sponsors who continue to make this event a success.”

In addition to Mayor Tory, spectators at the Sunnybrook Park event included Kevin McGurgan, British Consul General in Toronto and Director-General UK Trade and Investment; Helen Berhane, Chair of Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA); Myriam Madden, CIMA President, United Kingdom; Arlene Thomas, Senior Vice President of Management Accounting and Global Markets at the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants; and Mahes Wickramasinghe, Chief Strategy Officer, Canadian Tire.

The event is held in partnership with CIMA, CIBC, Rogers, Newstalk 1010, Toronto Sun, CBC, Metro News, ONESTOP Network and Tom’s Place. Several other community partners joined CIMA in supporting this year’s event.

The 11th annual CIMA Mayor’s Trophy is a great opportunity to highlight outstanding Toronto cricketers.

“As Chair of the Canadian Branch of CIMA, I am tremendously proud of the CIMA Mayor’s Trophy,” said Berhane. “The success of this volunteer-run event is another example of the ingenuity and dedication that is typical of CIMA members.”

The Mayor’s Trophy, with the help of a myriad of sponsors and community partners, helps to bring cricket to the broader Toronto community.

Another CIMA initiative, the fourth annual CIMA Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament for the CIBC Trophy, was played in May of this year. Additionally, the Mayor’s School Cricket team will travel to Sri Lanka through the CIMA Cricket Across the Pond program.
