Toronto CC report

In last weekend’s play, Ramblers C.C. took revenge over Toronto C.C., beating them by 33 runs, the same margin they conceded defeat to them in the first round game. Ramblers were asked to take the first lease of the wicket and made 274/8 in their 50 overs. This was mainly due to a second wicket partnership of 109 runs between Mangat (56) and skipper S. Jyoti (58) with A.Zaidi chipping in with a valuable 48 runs. Toronto lost their opening bowler, Cecil Pervez, injured trying to deliver the very first ball of the game; he took no further part in the game. Wicket takers for Toronto were Bhawarna & Keshvani with 3 each.

Toronto started well and the openers Srimantha & Bhaktiar were going great (49 runs) when the fielder at point took a diving catch, which was ruled by the head umpire as taken cleanly. Then it was Bhaktiar running himself out at 41 and experienced Dhanuka Pathirana bowled by Rajesh Veetil just 12 short of what would have been a magnificent century. Thereafter wickets fell at regular intervals, Zubin contributing 20 and C. Hassan with 18 runs coming at #9 to the middle. Toronto eventually fell 33 runs short. Veetil, Beri & Jyoti claimed 2 each and bowled well for the winners.

On Sunday, the home team Toronto S.C. & C.C. came up with a better performance to defeat the unbeaten Vikings C.C. by 199 runs. The highlight of the game was a well compiled chanceless century by opener Srimantha Wijeyeratne (107) and a hatrick by Arslan Quadir (3/19). Toronto missed their pacer, Cecil Pervez and Vikings were minus Ramdhas & Jason Patraj. Toronto made 304/4 in 50 with Zubin Surkari a quick fire 34, ably supported by Skipper Keshvani 67* and another brilliant exhibition of batting by Reza Ur Rehman whacking 55* in 35 balls. Vikings started badly losing 5/59 and never looked like putting up a fight.
