Cricket demonstration in Buxton

Chatham This Week: The American Civil War serves as the theme for this year’s Buxton Homecoming, to be held on the Labour Day Weekend. Every year thousands of people converge on North Buxton for the celebration, organized by the Buxton National Historic Site and Museum. As this year marks the 150th anniversary of the end of the Civil War, organizers thought the milestone would make for a fitting theme. “I think it’s going to be very enlightening because when you talk about the Civil War, a lot of people aren’t aware there were Canadians – let alone black Canadian men – from this area who fought in the Civil War,” said Shannon Prince, museum curator.
.New for this year will be a cricket demonstration from 3:30 to 6 p.m.
Oddly enough, it’s part of the Civil War theme.
“Apparently, cricket was a game that soldiers used to play when they weren’t in battle or when they weren’t training,” said Prince.
The event will be more than a demonstration as people, ages eight and up, can actually try their hand at the game.
