Bhan was a Life member, honorary board member, and statesman of the Association for well over 40 years, he had overseen cricket survive through both good and lean times in Halifax since the early days of the NSCA. Warmly considered the grandfather of NS cricket to modern day players in Halifax, Bhan has served on the NSCA board in just about every imaginable role including President, Secretary, Treasurer and Provincial Director.
Bhan was also a long-time servant of Cricket Canada, best known for his role as National Selector and Chairman of Selectors, through the years which oversaw the national men’s team to the ICC – International Cricket Council World Cup in 2003 and 2007. The ‘Deonarine Cup’ T20 tournament is named in Bhan’s honour at the beginning of the every inaugural Halifax Cricket League season.
