Toronto Mayor John Tory and Helen Berhane, Deputy Chair of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Canada, launched the 2017 Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament on Thursday, April 6th. Also taking part in this event were Councillor Chin Lee (Ward 41 Scarborough-Rouge River), Barry William, Vice President – Playing, Canadian Tire Corporation, Angelos Bacopoulos, Associate Director, Toronto District School Board and Frank D’Amico, Vice Chair, Toronto Catholic District School Board. John Moore, Newstalk 1010 host, was the MC for the event.
“This tournament has given young Torontonians the opportunities to engage in a sport that has become hugely popular in Toronto,” said Mayor Tory. “I am delighted to see so many of Toronto’s young cricketers receiving awards today.”
Individual and team awards from the 2016 tournament were presented, and we were pleased to note that our prolific and long time correspondent Eddie Norfolk received a certificate of appreciation for his efforts, as did former national team player, now Cricket Canada Development officer, Zubin Surkari.

The 2017 Mayor’s School Cricket Tournament will be held May 15 – 19 at Sunnybrook Park and G. Ross Lord Park. The GTA finals will be held on June 3 at Sunnybrook Park.
