Indoor cricket is underway in the Peel Region with four games played in each of the Girls Varsity and Junior Boys regular season and eleven games completed in the Senior Boys section.
Opening week in the Varsity Girls section, where games comprise a maximum of six overs per innings, saw wins for Humberview Secondary School (SS), Sandalwood Heights SS, Louise Arbour SS and North Park SS. One unbeaten record at this early stage of the season will end when Sandalwood Heights and Humberview meet on Tuesday (March 27) in this week’s only Varsity Girls game. Mentor College’s opening game is set for April 12.
The Junior Boys section, also played with a maximum of six overs per innings, saw wins for Central Peel SS, Castlebrook SS, Turner Fenton SS and Glenforest. Four games are schedule this week with Applewood Heights SS first game set for Tuesday (March 27).
Castlebrook SS won both scheduled games in the Senior Boys section with nine other schools each winning one game. Port Credit SS and Mentor College did not play a game last week but both are due to play on Wednesday then go head-to-head face at Port Credit on Thursday.
Result reporting seems to have been timely during the first week of the indoor season and cricket scoring notes on the Region of Peel Secondary School Athletic Association website now includes wickets lost and overs bowled for each innings. Previously regular season scores tended to include just runs scored.
T.L. Kennedy hit 74/2 from 8 overs in Senior Boys action to beat Gordon Graydon MSS (47/4, 8 overs) 27 runs. John Fraser also topped the 70 mark with 71/4 from 8 overs in a win against Erindale (51 all out, 6 overs). By contrast, Heart Lake tumbled to 5 all out from just 10 balls against Louise Arbour who won with 6/1 from 1.5 overs. It should be noted or remembered that six wickets is “all out” in Peel Region indoor schools cricket, rather than 10 wickets.
