After widespread media reports that Steve Smith might play in the upcoming Global T20, Sportstar approached Cricket Canada president Ranjit Saini who is reported to have said:-
““We have approached a few marquee players, but Smith is not one of them”

The fact that the Cricket Canada president is indicating that they have approached players is odd – earlier statements indicated that the league would be run by Mercuri Limited at arms length to Cricket Canada. It seems that if that were the case they should be the organization acting as spokesperson for the league as well as taking responsibility for approaching players. It is possible the president is using “we” in the broader sense of Cricket Canada and Mercuri, but given the risky nature of the venture, perhaps a clear separation would be advisable.
Again according to Saini the full list of players available to be drafted should be available on Tuesday. At this point it is not clear if anyone actually owns the various franchise teams or whether Mercuri will hold some sort of draft with itself.
