With an absence of any real information on official Cricket Canada media channels it is left to Canadian cricket fans to try to piece together plans from other sources. Canadian captain Davy Jacobs posted a picture of a nice set of red cricket kit on Instagram, with the caption “Thanks guys, I’m all kitted out and ready for Sri Lanka”.
The best interpretation we can put on this is that the senior squad is doing some warm weather training in Asia- but when, and who is going remains a mystery… To be fair the Cricket Canada twitter account posted on February 9 – “The Canadian team is ready to embark on the journey of their dreams! Be ready to witness the boys in action in World Cricket League 2”.
Update: Cricket Canada’s Twitter and Facebook accounts link to a photo from Rodrigo Thomas apparently showing the Senior team en route to somewhere, suggesting that there is indeed a tour to Sri Lanka underway.
We understand unofficially that the team is in Sri Lanka for 2 weeks training and some matches with local clubs.
The almost complete lack of information on this tour from Cricket Canada seems at odds to their stated goals in their strategic plan in regard to promoting cricket. Apart from this, it is embarrassing that a well established Associate nation can’t provide simple details of the tour and squad on their web site- 5 minutes work – leaving those who follow Canadian cricket to try and piece together what is happening from unofficial posts on social media.
