Canada defeat USA

Canada took on the USA at the Americas 20-20 qualifier and came away with an unexpected 10 run win. The developmental Canadian squad squandered an excellent start to total just 131. A fine effort in the field kept the full strength USA team under pressure throughout, and led by three wickets from young pace bowler Dhindsa Canada kept their unbeaten record intact.

Khushroo Wadia  and Jason Sandher got Canada off to a fine start, Wadia leading the way with nine boundaries. They put on 71 before Sandher was dismissed for a steady 23 (26). Wadia contributed an excellent 56 from 35 balls before giving George a return catch leaving Canada at 87/2 after 11 overs. The middle order Failed to capitalize on this good start as wickets tumbled and the run rate dropped. Bastiampillai  made 22 at a run per ball, but no other batsman contributed a boundary or reached double figures as 87/1 became 131 all out with an over left to spare. USA needed less than 7/over when they batted.
Dhindsa removed Roopnarine in the first over to pin USA back, but Mishra and Nadkarni took the total to 42 before Hansra broke the partnership. Nadkarni made 40 before Broadhurst had him caught behind. Junaid Siddiqui dismissed the dangerous Steve Massiah and the USA were four down, needing 50 from 7 overs. The inexperienced Canadian attack performed well, and the match headed for a close finish. Dhindsa took two more wickets, and a brilliant run out from Limbada left the USA needing 18 runs off the last over. They fell 10 runs short as Hussain took two wickets, and the inexperienced Canadian squad had recorded a big upset.
