King City is an idyllic stretch of horse farms and cornfields north of Toronto. Tucked amid the greenery is the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, home this week to a four-day Intercontinental Cup match between Canada and defending champions, Afghanistan.
If hockey is Canada’s game, then cricket is Afghanistan’s. National team members are celebrated as a merry band of cricket-bat-wielding Wayne Gretzkys. And they play not to get rich, but for pride and country.
